Charcoal drawing on 18"x24" white paper. For drawing homework I have to choose an artist and do a series of copies of their drawings. I chose John Singer Sargent because he is AMAZING and if I could paint like anyone it would be him. So I figure learning to draw like him is a start. This is a copy of his portrait drawing of William Butler Yeats, the famous Irish (!) poet, isn't he beautiful? For some reason he looks cuter in my drawing than in Sargent's.
thanks for the comment and fave and such yeah I've worked a lot with charcoal, we used it all last semester, I think it's some of the best stuff to do portraits with
I've only worked with windsor and newton vine charcoal, i use the medium and soft sticks, and/or alphacolor char-kole (it's compressed charcoal). these seem to work well for me, but I don't have experience with other brands. this is the stuff that my professors always say to get though, so it's probably the best stuff that's not crazy expensive. hope that helps
thanks i had never read much Yeats until I drew this, then i looked him up and now I love his work. if i find time i'm going to do some illustrations of his poems this semester

Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
